Location: South AfricaSouth Africa itineraryPlanning your South Africa ItinenaryIts difficult to define the best South Africa itinenary. The country is diverse and offers plenty. A good start is a week in Cape Town, at the tip of Africa: hike up Table Mountain, then cruise down on the cable car, marveling at the sprawling city below; take a spectacular scenic drive around the peninsula; take a boat to Robben Island for the 3hr. tour; by night, party to the decadent beat of the dance and jazz clubs.
Next, go wine-tasting in Stellenbosch, and let a frisky horse whisk you through valleys and vineyards. Now hug the coast, admiring the Cape Dutch architecture along the Garden Route. Catch the famous steam train, Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe, from George to Knysna, stopping at Wilderness. In Knysna, bike out to view the giant Knysna heads before moving on to party with the young, tanned, and beautiful at Plettenberg Bay.
Tackle the rugged terrain in the Tsitsikamma National Park, suntan and surf on famous Jeffreys Bay, then on to Port Elizabeth, where fortune might pitch you the thrill of a night-cricket match and boerewors roll at St. George’s Park. Drive through the Karoo desert to check out the spooky Owl House near Graaff-Reinet, then head to Grahamstown—with some good planning and some luck, you may be able to catch one of their world-famous festivals.
Continue inland to visit a sangoma in Lesotho, and try your hand at some of the country’s amazing pony trekking. From here, explore the sheer Drakensberg Range before bouncing back to the Wild Coast and Durban for some tropical beaches, colonial architecture, and spicy Indian cuisine. Continue up the coast toward St. Lucia and Cape Vidal, exploring one of the most unique wetland ecosystems on earth. Now into Swaziland, another tiny country that demonstrates both the good and the bad of a traditional monarchy. Slip out the northern side of the country and into Kruger National Park for a few days of the “big five,” and tramp around Blyde River Canyon on your way to Johannesburg for a few hair-raising final days.
Take the Soweto township tour and—for an unusual watering hole—visit a shebeen. Relax under the jacarandas and royal palms of Pretoria before bidding adieu to this wonderful country.Accommodation in and around South Africa Villa Afrikana Guest Suites accommodation in South Africa THE VILLAWith its summery, gleaming white, the geometric architecture of Villa Afrikana is already quite a sight.
